TEACHER PD: The Youth Creating AI Voice Chatbot Projects for Social Justice Course will teach you about the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI), learn to "USE" and experiment with AI voice assistants, recommendations engines, facial recognition tools, and generative AI tools, and learn to "MANAGE" an AI tool named IBM Watson Assistant to “DEVELOP” a chatbot that connects to the Changing Expectations voice chatbot web app and that uses artificial intelligence!

In this course, you will be introduced to AI, bias and ethics in AI, the IBM Watson Assistant, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning (ML).  After learning about the Design Justice principles, you will learn how to create an AI voice chatbot to deal with a social justice problem for friends, family, and community members from marginalized populations.

Each learner will also complete the IBM Skills Build Course on “Build Your Own Chatbot” to earn an IBM digital badge (micro-credential) that demonstrates an understanding of the creation of chatbots by leveraging IBM Watson and submit the badge to the course instructors before proceeding with designing your voice chatbot for social justice.

You will be successful in designing an AI voice chatbot for social justice when you engage in designing a voice chatbot project that addresses a social justice problem for people from marginalized communities.

Please prepare to conduct "participatory research" by talking to family, friends, and community members about their reflections on personal and familial histories related to the social justice topics that your voice chatbot will address. "Design Justice" provides our approach to construct the AI voice chatbots led by and centered around the voices of people from marginalized communities and that aims explicitly to challenge, rather than reproduce structural inequalities.
